Small families under subdivision

Abstract

Let HH be a graph with maximum degree dd, and let d0d'\ge 0. We show that for some c>0c>0 depending on H,dH,d', and all integers n0n\ge 0, there are at most cnc^n unlabelled simple dd-connected nn-vertex graphs with maximum degree at most dd' that do not contain HH as a subdivision. On the other hand, the number of unlabelled simple (d1)(d-1)-connected nn-vertex graphs with minimum degree dd and maximum degree at most d+1d+1 that do not contain Kd+1K_{d+1} as a subdivision is superexponential in nn.
