Revisiting Toom's proof of Bulgarian Solitaire

Abstract
In this article we give an exposition of Toom's proof of Bulgarian Solitaire that appeared in \emph{Kvant}. We provide more details. We also show how an application of the Chinese Remainder Theorem allows us to generalize the proof.

This paper was published in Ann. Sci. Math. Qu\'ebec. However, the journal was transferred to Springer and renamed in 2013. Recently as of 2023, the archives of the old journal have become inaccessible. As such, we have uploaded the published version as a more permanent reference
