Resonances for steplike potentials: forward and inverse results

Abstract

We consider resonances associated to the operator d2dx2+V(x)-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}+V(x), where V(x)=V+V(x)=V_+ if x>xMx>x_M and V(x)=VV(x)=V_- if x<xMx<-x_M, with V+VV_+\not = V_-. We obtain asymptotics of the resonance-counting function in several regions. Moreover, we show that in several situations, the resonances, V+V_+, and VV_- determine VV uniquely up to translation.
