Rank 2 Amalgams and Fusion Systems

Abstract

We classify fusion systems F\mathcal{F} in which Op(F)={1}O_p(\mathcal{F})=\{1\}, and there are two AutF(S)\mathrm{Aut}_{\mathcal{F}}(S)-invariant essential subgroups whose normalizer systems generate F\mathcal{F}. We employ the amalgam method and, as a bonus, obtain pp-local characterizations of certain rank 22 group amalgams whose parabolic subgroups involve strongly pp-embedded subgroups.
