Abstract
The origin of the identical gamma-ray energies (IB) observed in the K=33/2 and K=16 bands in Lu and Hf respectively is investigated using deformed Hartree-Fock and Angular Momentum Projection technique. We find that quantised orbital (rather than spin) alignment of protons in the m=1/2 inert orbit leads to identical energy spectra. A K=16 band with identical spectrum is predicted in Yb at 4.48 Mev of excitation.
