Abstract

Magnetic susceptibility χ\chi of the polycrystalline sample of samarium monosulfide was measured as a function of the hydrostatic pressure PP up to 2 kbar at liquid nitrogen and room temperatures using a pendulum-type magnetometer. A pronounced magnitude of the pressure effect is found to be positive in sign and strongly temperature dependent: the pressure derivatives of χ\chi, d\,lnχ\chi/dPP, are 6.3±0.56.3\pm0.5 and 14.2±114.2\pm1 Mbar1^{-1} at 300 and 78 K, respectively. The obtained experimental results are discussed within phenomenological approaches.
