Packing edge disjoint cliques in graphs

Abstract

Let r3r \ge 3 be fixed and GG be an nn-vertex graph. A long-standing conjecture of Gy\H{o}ri states that if e(G)=tr1(n)+ke(G) = t_{r-1}(n) + k, where tr1(n)t_{r-1}(n) denotes the number of edges of the Tur\'{a}n graph on nn vertices and r1r - 1 parts, then GG has at least (2o(1))k/r(2 - o(1))k/r edge disjoint rr-cliques. We prove this conjecture.
