On two-point configurations in random set

Combinatorics 2009-01-27 v2

Abstract

We show that with high probability a random set of size Θ(n11/k)\Theta(n^{1-1/k}) of {1,...,n}\{1,...,n\} contains two elements aa and a+dka+d^k, where dd is a positive integer. As a consequence, we prove an analogue of S\'ark\"ozy-F\"urstenberg's theorem for random set.
