On the weight distribution of random binary linear codes

Abstract

We investigate the weight distribution of random binary linear codes. For 0<λ<10<\lambda<1 and nn\to\infty pick uniformly at random λn\lambda n vectors in F2n\mathbb{F}_2^n and let CF2nC \le \mathbb{F}_2^n be the orthogonal complement of their span. Given 0<γ<1/20<\gamma<1/2 with 0<λ<h(γ)0< \lambda < h(\gamma) let XX be the random variable that counts the number of words in CC of Hamming weight γn\gamma n. In this paper we determine the asymptotics of the moments of XX of all orders o(nlogn)o(\frac{n}{\log n}).
