On the spectrum of rings of functions

Abstract

Let DD be a domain and MM a maximal ideal of DD. The ring of integer-valued polynomials on a subset EE of DD, as well as more general rings of functions from EE to DD, can be viewed as subrings of the product DE=eEDD^E=\prod_{e\in E}D. We investigate which maximal ideals of Int(E,D)Int(E,D) (or any other subring of DED^E) come from ultrapowers of the residue class ring D/MD/M.
