On the Glauberman-Solomon Theorem

Group Theory 2026-07-29 v1

Abstract

We give a self contained and concise proof of the following result, which was first proved by Glauberman as his ZJZJ-Theorem. Let pp be an odd prime and S1S \not= 1 a pp-group. Then there exists a characteristic subgroup W(S)1W(S) \not= 1 of SS with the property: whenever GG is a finite Qd(p)Qd(p)-free group of characteristic pp and SS is a Sylow subgroup of GG then W(S)GW(S) \unlhd G.
