On polytopes with congruent projections or sections

Abstract

Let 2kd12\le k\le d-1 and let PP and QQ be two convex polytopes in Ed{\mathbb E^d}. Assume that their projections, PHP|H, QHQ|H, onto every kk-dimensional subspace HH, are congruent. In this paper we show that PP and QQ or PP and Q-Q are translates of each other. We also prove an analogous result for sections by showing that P=QP=Q or P=QP=-Q, provided the polytopes contain the origin in their interior and their sections, PHP \cap H, QHQ \cap H, by every kk-dimensional subspace HH, are congruent.
