On $\phi_3$ Measurements Using $B^- \to D^* K^-$ Decays

Abstract

We point out that in decays of the type BDKB^- \to D^* K^-, where the neutral DD^* meson is an admixture of D0D^{*0} and Dˉ0\bar{D}^{*0}, there is an effective strong phase difference of π\pi between the cases that the DD^* is reconstructed as Dπ0D\pi^0 and DγD\gamma. We consider the consequences for measurements of ϕ3\phi_3 using these modes, some of which are profound and beneficial.
