Abstract
A recent result of N. Abe implies that the Gabber-Joseph conjecture is true for the first-degree extensions between Verma modules with regular integral highest weights.

This paper has been withdrawn. In a private communication, Professor Abe indicates that his result is true only up to an inequality. For that reason, the main result stated here remains unproven and, as yet, un-contradicted
