Northcott property and universality of higher degree forms

Number Theory 2024-07-30 v1

Abstract

Let KK be a totally real number field, dd a positive integer, and QQ a higher degree form over KK. We prove that there are at most finitely many totally real extensions L/KL/K of degree dd such that QQ over LL is universal. Further, we show that there are no universal forms over totally real infinite extensions of Q\mathbb{Q} having the Northcott property.
