Muon Dipole Moment Experiments: Interpretation and Prospects

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology 2009-10-09 v2 High Energy Physics - Experiment

Abstract

We examine the prospects for discovering new physics through muon dipole moments. The current deviation in gμ2g_{\mu}-2 may be due entirely to the muon's {\em electric} dipole moment. We note that the precession frequency in the proposed BNL muon EDM experiment is also subject to a similar ambiguity, but this can be resolved by up-down asymmetry measurements. We then review the theoretical expectations for the muon's electric dipole moment in supersymmetric models.
