Muon capture on Chlorine-35

Abstract

We report measurements of γ\gamma--ray spectra from muon capture on 35^{35}Cl. For the allowed Gamow--Teller transitions to the 35^{35}S(2939,3/2+)(2939, 3/2^+) state and the 35^{35}S(3421,5/2+)(3421, 5/2^+) state we obtained their capture rates, hyperfine dependences and γ\gamma--ν\nu correlation coefficients. The capture rates and hyperfine dependences were compared to shell model calculations using the complete 1s--0d space and the universal SD interaction. With gp/ga=6.7g_p / g_a = 6.7 and ga=1.00g_a = -1.00 (or ga=1.26g_a = -1.26) we found agreement of the model and the data at the 1--2 σ\sigma level. However, we caution that the transitions are sensitive to =2\ell = 2 forbidden matrix elements.
