Monomial reduction of knot polynomials

Geometric Topology 2022-05-16 v1

Abstract

For all natural numbers NN and prime numbers pp, we find a knot KK whose skein polynomial PK(a,z)P_K(a,z) evaluated at z=Nz=N has trivial reduction modulo pp. An interesting consequence of our construction is that all polynomials PK(a,N)P_K(a,N) (mod~pp) with bounded aa-span are realised by knots with bounded braid index. As an application, we classify all polynomials of the form PK(a,1)P_K(a,1) (mod 22) with aa-span 10\leq 10.
