Measuring Three Vector Boson Couplings in $qq\to qqW$ at the SSC

Abstract

We investigate the electroweak process qqqqWqq\to qqW, {\it i.e.} WW production via WγW\gamma and WZWZ fusion, as a probe for nonstandard WWγWW\gamma and WWZWWZ vertices at hadron supercolliders. Triggering on events with one very forward and one very backward jet while requiring the WW decay lepton to be central, strongly enhances the triple gauge boson vertex contribution and suppresses backgrounds from QCD WjjWjj events and ttˉjt\bar tj production below the signal level. At the SSC, the process is sensitive to WWVWWV, V=γ,ZV=\gamma\, ,Z couplings κV1\kappa_V -1, λV\lambda_V, and g1Zg_1^Z in the 0.030.10.03\dots 0.1 range.
