Klein's "Erlanger Programm": do traces of it exist in physical theories?

History and Philosophy of Physics 2015-10-29 v1

Abstract

A possible influence of Klein's Erlangen program on physical theories is investigated. While some connections are found, it is concluded that Lie's theory of transformation groups and Lie algebras have had a much larger impact. In this context, an extension to tangential Lie algebroids is discussed.
