Isometric composition operators on Lipschitz spaces

Abstract

Given pointed metric spaces XX and YY, we characterize the basepoint-preserving Lipschitz maps ϕ\phi from YY to XX inducing an isometric composition operator CϕC_\phi between the Lipschitz spaces Lip0(X)Lip_0(X) and Lip0(Y)Lip_0(Y), whenever XX enjoys the peak property. This gives an answer to a question posed by N. Weaver in his book [Lipschitz algebras. Second edition. World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd., Hackensack, NJ, 2018].
