Inclusive charmed-meson production from bottom hadron decays at the LHC

Abstract

We present predictions for the inclusive productions of the D meson originating from bottom hadrons at the CERN LHC in the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme at next-to-leading order. We present results using two methods to describe the transition for bDb\rightarrow D: a two-step transition bBDb\rightarrow B \rightarrow D, based on the bBb\rightarrow B fragmentation functions and the spectra for BDB\rightarrow D as measured by CLEO and a one-step transition based on the fragmentation functions for bDb\rightarrow D. The results of both approaches are compared.
