Hjorth's reflection argument

Logic 2025-03-11 v4

Abstract

Hjorth, assuming AD+ZF+DC{\sf{AD+ZF+DC}}, showed that there is no sequence of length ω2\omega_2 consisting of distinct Σ21\Sigma^1_2-sets. We show that the same theory implies that for n0n\geq 0, there is no sequence of length δ2n+21\delta^1_{2n+2} consisting of distinct Σ2n+21\Sigma^1_{2n+2} sets. The theorem settles Question 30.21 of Kanamori, which was also conjectured by Kechris.
