Generalized Sierpi\'nski Numbers

Abstract

A Sierpi\'nski number is a positive odd integer kk such that k2n+1k \cdot 2^n + 1 is composite for all positive integers nn. Fix an integer AA with 2A2 \le A. We show that there exists a positive odd integer kk such that kan+1k\cdot a^n + 1 is composite for all integers a[2,A]a \in [2, A] and all nZ+n \in \mathbb{Z}^+.
