General Bourgin-Yang theorems

Abstract

We describe a unified approach to estimating the dimension of f1(A)f^{-1}(A) for any GG-equivariant map f ⁣:XYf \colon X \to Y and any closed GG-invariant subset AYA\subseteq Y in terms of connectivity of XX and dimension of YY, where GG is either a cyclic group of order pkp^k, a pp-torus (pp a prime), or a torus.
