Further Results on the Classification of MDS Codes

Abstract

A qq-ary maximum distance separable (MDS) code CC with length nn, dimension kk over an alphabet A\mathcal{A} of size qq is a set of qkq^k codewords that are elements of An\mathcal{A}^n, such that the Hamming distance between two distinct codewords in CC is at least nk+1n-k+1. Sets of mutually orthogonal Latin squares of orders q9q\leq 9, corresponding to two-dimensional \mbox{qq-}ary MDS codes, and qq-ary one-error-correcting MDS codes for q8q\leq 8 have been classified in earlier studies. These results are used here to complete the classification of all 77-ary and 88-ary MDS codes with d3d\geq 3 using a computer search.
