Engineering nuclear spin dynamics with optically pumped nitrogen-vacancy center

Quantum Physics 2019-08-17 v1

Abstract

We present a general theory for using an optically pumped diamond nitrogen-vacancy center as a tunable, non-equilibrium bath to control a variety of nuclear spin dynamics (such as dephasing, relaxation, squeezing, polarization, etc.) and the nuclear spin noise. It opens a new avenue towards engineering the dissipative and collective nuclear spin evolution and solves an open problem brought up by the 13^{13}C nuclear spin noise suppression experiment [E. Togan \textit{et al}., Nature 478, 497 (2011)].
