Doubly partially conservative sentences

Logic 2025-03-18 v1

Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is to analyze several variants of Solovay's theorem on the existence of doubly partially conservative sentences. First, we investigate Θ\Theta sentences that are doubly (Γ,Λ)(\Gamma, \Lambda)-conservative over TT for several triples (Θ,Γ,Λ)(\Theta, \Gamma, \Lambda). Among other things, we prove that the existence of a Δn+1(PA)\Delta_{n+1}(\mathsf{PA}) sentence that is doubly (Σn,Σn)(\Sigma_n, \Sigma_n)-conservative over TT is equivalent to the Σn+1\Sigma_{n+1}-inconsistency of TT over PA\mathsf{PA}. Secondly, we study Θ\Theta sentences that are hereditarily doubly (Γ,Λ)(\Gamma, \Lambda)-conservative over TT for several triples (Θ,Γ,Λ)(\Theta, \Gamma, \Lambda).
