Distinguishing newforms

Number Theory 2014-04-18 v1

Abstract

Let n0(N,k)n_0(N,k) be the number of initial Fourier coefficients necessary to distinguish newforms of level NN and even weight kk. We produce extensive data to support our conjecture that if NN is a fixed squarefree positive integer and kk is large then n0(N,k)n_0(N,k) is the least prime that does not divide NN.
