Disjointness of a simple matrix Lie group and its Lie algebra

Abstract

Let GG be a connected closed subgroup of GLn(C)\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{C}) which is simple as a Lie group and which acts irreducibly on Cn\mathbb{C}^n. Regarding both GG and its Lie algebra g\mathfrak{g} as subsets of Mn(C)M_n(\mathbb{C}), we have GgG\cap \mathfrak{g}\neq\emptyset if and only if GG is a classical group and Cn\mathbb{C}^n is a minuscule representation.
