Di-pion emission in heavy quarkonia decays

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology 2008-11-26 v2

Abstract

The di-pion spectrum for the Υ(nS)Υ(nS))\Upsilon(nS) \to \Upsilon (n'S)) transition with n4n\leq 4 has the form dwdq\frac{dw}{dq}\sim (phase space) ηx2 |\eta-x|^2, with x=q24mπ2(ΔM)24mπ2<q2Mππ2,x=\frac{q^2-4m^2_\pi}{(\Delta M)^2 -4 m^2_\pi}< q^2 \equiv M^2_{\pi\pi}, and ΔM=M(nS)M(nS)\Delta M=M(nS) -M(n'S). The parameter η\eta is calculated and the spectrum is shown to reproduce the experimental data for all 3 types of decays: 31,213\to 1, 2\to 1 and 323\to 2 with η0.5;0\eta \approx 0.5; 0, and -3, respectively.
