Complete description of derivations on $\tau$-compact operators for type I von Neumann algebras

Abstract

Given a type I von Neumann algebra MM with a faithful normal semi-finite trace τ,\tau, let S0(M,τ)S_0(M, \tau) be the algebra of all τ\tau-compact operators affiliated with M.M. We give a complete description of all derivations on the algebra S0(M,τ).S_0(M, \tau). In particular, we prove that if MM is of type I_\infty then every derivation on S0(M,τ)S_0(M, \tau) is spatial.
