Common substring with shifts in b-ary expansions

Number Theory 2024-03-19 v1

Abstract

Denote by Sn(x,y)S_n(x,y) the length of the longest common substring of xx and yy with shifts in their first nn digits of bb-ary expansions. We show that the sets of pairs (x,y)(x,y), for which the growth rate of Sn(x,y)S_n(x,y) is αlogn\alpha \log n with 0α0\le \alpha \le \infty, have full Hausdorff dimension.
