CDF Measurement of $M_W$: Theory implications

Abstract

The CDF collaboration recently reported a measurement of the WW-bosos mass, MWM_W, showing a large positive deviation from the Standard Model (SM) prediction. The question arises whether extensions of the SM exist that can accommodate such large values, and what further phenomenological consequences arise from this. We give a brief review of the implications of the new CDF measurement on the SM, as well as on Higgs-sector extensions. In particular, we review the compatibility of the MWM_W measurement of CDF with excesses observed in the light Higgs-boson searches at 95\sim 95 GeV, as well as with the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model in conjunction with the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, (g2)μ(g-2)_\mu.
