Abstract
Effect of anisotropy in the physical tensor description of the negative index of refraction material (left-handed material, LHM) acting as a substrate is found on the electromagnetic field distributions. Field distributions are provided in the GHz region in the cross-section of the uniform microstrip guided wave structure. It is found from ab initio Green's function calculations that modifying the tensor can allow control because the wave changes volumetrically, or switches from volumetric to surface, in its distribution of fields. Comparison is made of the LHM results to ordinary right-handed material (RHM) acting as a substrate.
