An Endomorphism of a Finitely Generated Residually Finite Group

Group Theory 2008-02-03 v1

Abstract

Let ϕ:GG\phi:G\rightarrow G be an endomorphism of a finitely generated residually finite group. R.~Hirshon asked if there exists~nn such that the restriction of ϕ\phi to ϕn(G)\phi^n(G) is injective. We give an example to show that this is not always the case.
