Abstract

Given a measure-preserving transformation TT of a probability space (X,B,μ)(X, \mathcal B, \mu) and a finite measurable partition PP of XX, we show how to construct an Alpern tower of any height whose base is independent of the partition PP. That is, given NNN \in \N, there exists a Rohlin tower of height NN, with base BB and error set EE, so that BB is independent of PP, and T(E)BT(E) \subset B.
