A Three-Dimensional Hydrodynamics Code for Modeling Sources of Gravitational Radiation

General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology 2009-10-22 v2 Astrophysics

Abstract

We have developed a 3-D Eulerian hydrodynamics code to model sources of gravitational radiation. The code is written in cylindrical coordinates (ϖ,z,φ)(\varpi,z,\varphi) and has moving grids in the ϖ\varpi and zz-directions. We use Newtonian gravity and calculate the gravitational radiation in the quadrupole approximation. This code has been tested on a variety of problems to verify its accuracy and stability, and the results of these tests are reported here.
