Abstract
We present a search for the rare flavour-changing neutral-current decay B−→K−ννˉ based on a sample of (86.9±1.0)×106 Υ(4S)→B\bar{B}eventscollectedbytheBABARexperimentattheSLACB−factory.SignalcandidateeventsareselectedbyfullyreconstructingaB^+ \to \bar{D}^{0} X^+decay,whereX^+representsacombinationofuptothreechargedpionsorkaonsanduptotwo\pi^0candidates.ThechargedtracksandcalorimeterclustersnotusedintheB^+reconstructionarerequiredtobecompatiblewithaB^{-}\to K^{-} \nu \bar{\nu}decay.Weobserveatotalofthreesignalcandidateeventswithanexpectedbackgroundof2.7 \pm 0.8,resultinginapreliminarylimitof\mathcal{B}(B^{-}\to K^{-} \nu \bar{\nu}) < 1.05 \times 10^{-4}atthe90B^{-}\to K^{-} \nu \bar{\nu}togivealimitof\mathcal{B}(B^{-}\to K^{-} \nu \bar{\nu}) < 7.0 \times 10^{-5}$ at the 90% confidence level.
