There is an error on the last two lines before Lemma 2.2 (page 3): therefore the proof of the Jayne-Rogers Theorem contained in this paper is valid only when considering Baire class 1 functions defined on a complete metric space (Theorem 2.1). This is now corrected in "Some observations on `A new proof of a theorem of Jayne and Rogers'" (arXiv:1112.0350)
