A Criterion for Deficient Numbers Using the Abundancy Index and Deficiency Functions

Abstract

We show that nn is almost perfect if and only if I(n)1<D(n)I(n)I(n) - 1 < D(n) \leq I(n), where I(n)I(n) is the abundancy index of nn and D(n)D(n) is the deficiency of nn. This criterion is then extended to the case of integers mm satisfying D(m)>1D(m)>1.
