A characterization of centrally symmetric convex bodies in terms of visual cones

Metric Geometry 2026-02-03 v1

Abstract

In this work we prove the following result: Let KK be a strictly convex body in the Euclidean space Rn,n3\mathbb{R}^n, n\geq 3, and let LL be a hypersurface, which is the image of an embedding of the sphere Sn1\mathbb{S}^{n-1}, such that KK is contained in the interior of LL. Suppose that, for every xLx\in L, there exists yLy\in L such that the support double-cones of KK with apexes at xx and yy, differ by a translation. Then KK and LL are centrally symmetric and concentric.
